Not long ago, Victor and I hosted our first couple's retreat. We scooted two extra long twin beds together at GardenSpirit Guesthouse and made plushy king-size beds for those lucky twosomes. Very comfy.
But the "ah ha" moments of the weekend didn't happen in the bedrooms (at least, not to our knowledge .... ). They happened in the hot tub, in the sunroom, around a simmering, smokey fire, at breakfast in the purple dining room.
Yes, the lightbulbs went off in broad daylight.
And though none of the couples who showed up at the pre-Valentine's Day weekend were on the verge of divorce (although they had considered murder on occasion), they left North Carolina with a sense that marriage could be better...good, even. They left, quite simple, with hope.
So, can this marriage be saved? More importantly- can this marriage get out of the Vally of the Blahs and trek up to the Hills of Possibility and Passion?
Victor and I know, from hard experience, that it can. We've been through the valley and emerged on top of the mountain, not as evangelical cheerleaders but as practiced and loving spouses.
What's the secret to a long and wonderful relationship? Work, darn it...and then a lot of PLAY.
We have couple's retreats lined up all year long. Love to have you experience the same wonder and re-ignite your relationship too.!
